Tora! Tora! Tora! Blu-ray Disc Review

Tora Tora Tora Blu-ray Review

Tora! Tora! Tora! is the kind of movie that only a historical film fan could love. It’s not a terrible film by any means, but it’s the kind of movie with a pacing aimed more at delivering historical accuracy than being an exciting thrill-a-minute ride. If you’re looking for an action-packed very-loose interpretation of the events of Pearl Harbor, than rent Pearl Harbor. If, however, you’re looking to see a seminal event in American history from both sides, then Tora! Tora! Tora! is definitely worth watching, and the new … [Read more...]

Zen Pinball 3D Review

Zen Studios is slowing creeping onto each and every platform possible, and making a pinball splash each time. The latest is a Nintendo 3DS eShop release of Zen Pinball 3D, which came out Jan 12 in North America. Featuring four tables, all of which are available on the standard Zen Pinball release (and two on Pinball FX2) this move to 3D is a little superfluous but yet still is a very nice addition to the genre. Plus, being an eShop release means you don’t need to lug around another cartridge to get your pinball … [Read more...]

Sony Tablet P Games: Hands-On at CES 2012

Sony Tablet P Gaming Feature

As much as CES 2012 has been about TVs and the Cloud, there’s been a remarkably loud gaming presence as well, and not just from the tables and slot machines. Games on Smart TVs. Games on consoles. Games on PCs and Smartphones. And yes, games on tablets. Perhaps the most unique tablet gaming experience this year has been on Sony’s Tablet P, which folds like a Nintendo DS and looks more like an overweight checkbook than a normal tablet. Its size is reminiscent of a fat checkbook too, which makes playing games on the … [Read more...]

LG CES 2012 Press Conference and Booth Overview

LG CES 2012 Press Conference and Booth Overview

Home to the first press conference of CES 2012, LG Electronics tried to be the pace car for the rest of the day’s (and show's) proceedings. No matter how hard a slew of bad jokes tried to bring them down, LG largely succeeded with enough innovative products to justifiably own your entire home electronics ecosystem. They covered essentially everything from the man cave (nice TVs) to family essentials (smart appliances) to the everyday (smartphones), and I came away impressed each time. LG’s 3D Cinema line of 3D TVs … [Read more...]

2K Games Logo

We've known for about a year now that the XCOM series was getting an FPS reboot by 2K Games, and the news left fans of the original games a little cautious. Yes, Firaxis Games -- the same house of strategy experts led by Sid Meier. They know a thing or two about strategy games. Here's the info about XCOM: … [Read more...]

Marvel Pinball Vengeance and Virtue Pack Review

If you’ve read any of our Pinball FX 2 coverage in the past, then it should be no surprise to you that we are huge fans of the platform/game. Zen Studios knows pinball and lately everything they’ve been touching has been gold. It goes without saying that the physics in this newest set of tables, Marvel Vengence & Virtue, are spot on blending the realism of a physics based table with the computer generated magic that only video pinball can offer. Each of the four tables in this pack is completely unique but do hold … [Read more...]

Toy Story 3 Blu-ray 3D Review

Toy Story 3 Blu-ray 3D

As a parent, I find Toy Story 3 to be an incredibly sad movie. Well scripted, meaningful and great, to be sure, but emotional and sad nonetheless. As a so-called graphics whore, I find Toy Story 3 to be one of 2011’s benchmark CG films, with animations and textures so refined they’d make granular sugar cry. Yet as a fan of the Blu-ray 3D format, I find Toy Story 3 to be a bit disappointing. The technological jump from the first to second film was remarkable, as I noted in my Toy Story 2 Blu-ray 3D review, and the impact … [Read more...]

Toy Story 2 Blu-ray 3D Review

Toy Story 2 Blu-ray 3D

Pixar is always one to make evolutionary leaps in technology, with subtle changes between in films that somehow make all the difference. Yet when it comes to the Blu-ray 3D presentations of Toy Story and Toy Story 2, the jump is more drastic than any Pixar has taken to date. The straight-up graphical improvements cannot be denied, but it’s the little nuances between the first and second outings of Buzz Lightyear and Co. -- things like depth of field and improved animations -- that help make the 3D effects so much more … [Read more...]
