It looks like Elder Scrolls V is taking a bit of a turn for the Elder Scrolls franchise, as it's rumored that the game will be a "true sequel" to Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Oblivion is our editor's favorite game of all time, hence the posting of a rumor. But by all accounts, the rumor is just about confirmed. And The Elder Scrolls V may even be an MMO. According to the Danish Eurogamer counterpart, Bethesda is working on a fifth game in the franchise that continues the storyline set out in Oblivion. The site's source for the article "not only … [Read more...]

In this economy, consumers are looking for value. Gamers are especially keen to this, which is why today's news of a $39.99 Xbox 360 bundle that includes BioShock and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is so exciting. 2K Games and Bethesda Softworks are also creating a PC bundle, which will retail for the meager price of $29.99. It combines the 2006 Game of the Year (Oblivion) with the 2007 Game of the Year (BioShock) into a single … [Read more...]

Oblivion: Game of the Year Edition Review

Although Bethesda Softworks may seem like a niche publisher, one could easily make the argument that its few releases are simply a matter of quality over quantity. Granted, the company has historically struggled with patching issues, but other than that, there's a reason Bethesda's Elder Scrolls series has won numerous game of the year awards. The latest outing, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, is no exception, and upon its release in 2006 garnered accolades from nearly every outlet, including ours. So is it any surprise to see Oblivion: Game of … [Read more...]

Oblivion and Fallout 3 Coming to Nintendo Wii?

The Gamebryo game engine, which powers The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Fallout 3, has been successfully ported to the Nintendo Wii. This naturally begs the question of whether Oblivion will appear on the Wii. Our magic eight ball says "not likely." While the Gamebryo engine has been successfully implemented for the Wii, a port of Bethesda's masterpiece is highly doubtful. Granted, the engine has officially been implemented as part of Nintendo's Third Party Tools program, but that doesn't mean existing games such as Oblivion will be subject … [Read more...]

Oblivion Designer Goes to Big Huge Games

The Lead Designer of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has joined Big Huge Games to work on a new role-playing game. We don't normally publish personnel moves here on DailyGame, but Ken Rolston's move is particularly intriguing. For starters, it makes us wonder what, if any, affect this move will have the excellent Elder Scrolls series. Todd Howard has been instrumental in the success of Oblivion, so the franchise is probably still in fine hands. However, it's a serious coup for Big Huge Games to get a big huge … [Read more...]
