Memorick: The Apprentice Knight [Xbox]

Written by: Jonas Allen

Chalk another new game announcement up to the pre-E3 fervor, only this time, rest assured that the newly announced game looks pretty solid even in its early state. This holiday season, Microids will be shipping Memorick: The Apprentice Knight, a fully 3D action platformer, exclusively for the Xbox, and we’ve got the first screens and gameplay details directly from the publisher.

Influenced greatly by the legends surrounding King Arthur, Memorick: The Apprentice Knight takes place on the Island of Avalon, a land of magic where quite literally anything is possible. In a remote part of Avalon known as the floating isles, Merlin has been busy instructing his apprentice, Memorick, in the ways of wizardry. As young pupils are wont to do, though, Memorick secretly dreams of justice, honor and knighthood. Basically, all the action he'd heard about but never seen.

It is with this backdrop that gamers assume the role of Memorick, a 15-year old boy who must defend his native land from the dark armies raised and trained by Morganna, King Arthur's sister, and her son, Mordred. This defense and a heavy bend toward 3D platforming will unfold on 11 different levels spread out over eight unique worlds.

As you'd expect from a next-gen platformer, though, the action will stray from the hop, skip and jump mentality of the platforming games we all grew up playing. Sure, there will be walking and running, but gamers will also find themselves riding a horse, flying on a gryphon and sliding down hillsides on a shield.

Microids promises that Memorick: The Apprentice Knight will ship with highly developed monster AI and include a total of 28 monsters, 5 of which will be mighty bosses. It also says the game will feature "stunning 3D environments and graphics" that take full advantage of the Xbox's capabilities.

To aid in your gameplay, Memorick's skills will constantly evolve, both magic and physical, and you'll naturally have a variety of Arthurian-inspired weapons from which to choose.

If you'd like to see some of the game in "action," take a look at the first screenshots of the game in our related media section. If you'd like to hear our more in-depth hands-on impressions, you'll have to wait at least until E3, when we expect to see more of Memorick: The Apprentice Knight..
