Amazon Kindle Fire Android Tablet: 7 Inches, Nov. 15, Only $199 — Pre-Order Link

September 28, 2011 By Sara 1 Comment
Android Guy

Amazon this morning announced its long-anticipated Android-based tablet. Called Kindle Fire, the 7-inch tablet will ship Nov. 15 and retail for $199. Yes, folks, that's officially "iPad killer" pricing. You can pre-order the Kindle Fire from Amazon.com by clicking this link: Kindle Fire, Full Color 7" Multi-touch Display, Wi-Fi. The Kindle Fire will only ship with a WiFi model, although a 3G model wouldn't be a complete surprise if and when Amazon gets friendly with one (or three) wireless carriers. Reports from Amazon's Kindle Fire …

HTC Trophy Windows Phone Review

August 25, 2011 By Jonas Allen Leave a Comment
HTC-Trophy-Feature

Microsoft has this knack of releasing products before their ready, so it’s OK to be skeptical of the latest batch of Windows phones. Sure, they include Xbox Live connections, but that promise comes from the company that launched Xbox Live a bit prematurely in the first place on the original Xbox, right? Or that five years ago at E3 promised mobile connectivity to the XBL community? Funny thing: Microsoft must have learned its lesson, because if the HTC Trophy Windows Phone is any indication of all the other Windows phones out there, Android …

NextGen Rechargable Universal Active 3D Glasses Review

August 24, 2011 By Jonas Allen Leave a Comment
NextGen Rechargable Universal Active 3D Glasses

The demand for 3DTVs hasn’t gained steam as quickly as the manufacturers would’ve liked, though recent studies suggest that potential 3DTV buyers are not only prepared to spend more, but plan to buy a 3DTV in the not-too-distant future. One of the barriers to entry has traditionally been the expensive active-shutter glasses used by most sets, a pain point made even more unbearable by most active-shutter glasses being tied to a specific manufacturer. For instance, if you buy a Sony Bravia 3DTV, its glasses won’t work on a Panasonic or …

Vizio XWH200 Universal Wireless HD Video & Audio Kit Review

August 22, 2011 By Jonas Allen Leave a Comment
Vizio-XWH200-Feature

The great thing about modern electronics is that they all connect to one another. Unfortunately, that’s also the bad thing about modern electronics, at least if you have to worry about cord control and limited inputs. This is particularly true with the latest round of game consoles and HDTVs/3DTVs, which have more horsepower than we’ve ever seen but require a separate connection for each individual component. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could transmit more things wirelessly? Like, say, your video signal, so your consoles could be hidden …

Vizio Launches New 8-inch Android Tablet with WiFi

August 9, 2011 By Jonas Allen Leave a Comment
Vizio logo

If you've been looking for an inexpensive Android-powered tablet, Vizio has begun shipping one to retail that you may want to consider. Vizio's new 8-inch Android tablet has built-in WiFi and carries an MSRP of just $299. Vizio has largely been known as an HDTV company, but it's moving into more home-entertainment products via a new 3D streaming product (full review coming soon) and, now, with its first entry into the popular tablet computing space. The new Vizio 8" tablet with WiFi is now available at Sam's Club, Walmart, Costco, Amazon and …

First Rechargeable Active 3D Glasses — Also Universal — Coming in August

July 26, 2011 By Jonas Allen Leave a Comment
3D Blu-ray Logo

Considering the number of 3D TV manufacturers, most of which require proprietary active-shutter 3D glasses, owners of a PS3 or 3D Blu-ray player may feel hamstrung when it comes to the total cost of their hobby. The one set of universal active 3D glasses we've reviewed (from Xpand) didn't fare particularly well, but a company called NextGen is hoping to change that. And it's going to do so via the industry's first rechargeable Active 3D glasses. On August 1, NextGen will debut a pair of Active 3D Glasses ($79.95 MSRP) that will be …

Aluratek Mini Surge Dual USB Charging Station Review

July 7, 2011 By Jonas Allen Leave a Comment
Aluratek Mini Surge Dual USB Charging Station

We’ve all been there: sitting in a hotel with an iPod or smartphone on its last leg, but without the laptop needed to charge the dying battery. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve personally been forced to power-down an iPod until I could get back to the juice-providing safety of a USB port. Or the number of days at E3 this year when the tweets and photos killed my Android’s battery with such efficiency that I had to turn off the device mid-afternoon just to call home later in the day. Short of working magic and transferring power …

Vizio’s Theater 3D Strategy Gains Ground with Retailers — and James Cameron

May 10, 2011 By Jonas Allen Leave a Comment
Vizio logo

Vizio first talked about its Passive Theater 3D technology during CES, indicating (as did several manufacturers) that the active-shutter technology currently driving 3DTV sales is destined to be outdated soon. Why? Because James Cameron doesn't like it. Actually, the majority of Vizio's argument lies in the continual presence of crosstalk issues, the bulk of the active-shutter 3D glasses themselves, and the price to buy more than one pair. It now sounds like Vizio's strategy is picking up steam with retailers, as the company's gaining …

Aluratek Cinepal HD Personal Media Player Review

April 25, 2011 By Jonas Allen 1 Comment
Cinepal-HD

For all the talk of tablets, it’s odd to see a device that looks like a tablet, feels like a tablet and has e-reader capabilities like a tablet that actually isn’t one. Such is the case with the Cinepal from Aluratek, a digital multimedia device that excels with its high-definition display but feels a bit like a coulda-woulda-shoulda piece of hardware. Where photo, video and music playback is concerned, Aluratek’s Cinepal ranks near the top. But with the multimedia so dialed-in, it’s hard not to think “oh, man, if you just had a …

Full-Length Cowboys & Aliens Trailer Debuts Tonight During American Idol

April 14, 2011 By Jonas Allen Leave a Comment
Universal Pictures logo

Movie trailers and theatrical news aren't things we cover often, but when sci-fi meets the Old West -- and Harrison Ford meets Daniel Craig -- we're open to exceptions. So when Universal announced that the full-length trailer for Cowboys & Aliens was debuting tonight during American Idol, we thought we'd share the news. Because really, this is our editor's top choice for must-see-on-opening-night blockbusters this summer. The new trailer for Cowboys & Aliens will air during a commercial break of American Idol tonight during the results show. …
