Netflix Price Increase? Xbox One Could Change the Game

New on Netflix

Millions of streaming TV and movie buffs groaned this week when the Netflix price increase was announced. The logic is sound: increase prices $1 to $2 per month to help underwrite the creation of new exclusive content. Hey, who doesn't want the next House of Cards? But while millions of Netflix users bemoaned the price hike, a huge opportunity presented itself for Microsoft -- presuming the company's really serious about the Xbox One as an all-in-one entertainment device. Netflix currently costs U.S. streaming subscribers $7.99 per month, a … [Read more...]

PS4 Sales Top 7 Million Worldwide; PS4 Games, Price Cited

PlayStation 4 - PS4

Sony's six-month march to the top of the next-gen world continues. After six months on the market, the company has announced that PS4 sales have topped the 7 million mark worldwide. Compared to Microsoft's Xbox One sales of 5 million, that's a 40% lead -- and maybe even higher. There are several reasons for PS4 dominating, but the PS4 games, price and brand loyalty are the three largest factors. Sony's 7 million PS4 sales figure represents consoles "sold-through" to consumers, meaning there are 7 million PS4s actually in the hands of gamers. … [Read more...]

Xbox One Sales Hit 5 Million Mark, Still Trail PS4 by 40%

Xbox One Console

Microsoft finally broke its silence regarding Xbox One sales results, with the news being an "eye of the beholder" kind of thing. By the end of March Xbox One sales hit the 5 million mark worldwide, according to Microsoft. That's a significant jump since Microsoft's previous report of 3 million consoles sold. However, that previous report had come at the end of 2013. In addition, the 5 million Xbox One sales info was accompanied by a nuanced phrase that many people aren't familiar with. When divulging the latest data, Microsoft said "more … [Read more...]

Fresh off a great console debut, the company's now working on Project Totem, a co-op puzzle platformer that will release exclusively on Xbox One. Project Totem is a playful platforming game in which cooperative players control two totem pole heads with a single controller. According to the game's creators, the concept came from brothers Asger Strandby (Game Director) and Bo Strandby (Lead Designer), who wanted to put a distinctive … [Read more...]

Soda Drinker Pro Xbox One Version to Release this Year

Xbox One Console

Normally "FPS" in gaming parlance stands for "first-person shooter." An indie game slated to release later this year hopes to change that perception, as a Soda Drinker Pro Xbox One version is coming via the ID@Xbox program. Soda Drinker Pro is one of the oddest ideas we've heard in some time for a game. Sure, Mt. Dew and Xbox consoles go hand in hand, but to see Soda Drinker Pro -- billed as "the world’s most advanced FPS (First Person Soda) drinking simulation -- coming to Xbox One is just plain weird. Soda Drinker Pro will be available … [Read more...]

The rail-shooter game genre, which came to fame in the arcades, will soon find a home on the next-gen consoles as well. The Blue Estate game is billed as a "darkly funny rail shooter" based on the Blue Estate comic books from Viktor Kalvachev.
