Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X.: Storyline and Fictional History

May 22, 2008 By Jonas Allen Leave a Comment

Ubisoft today released two new in-game screenshots for H.A.W.X., its aerial combat game set in the near future, but buried among the screens was an impressively detailed document highlighting the incredible Tom Clancy-esque backstory of the game, as well as the storyline that the game will follow when it releases on PS3 and Xbox 360. For your reading pleasure, we have included the entire document below, complemented by the two in-game H.A.W.X. screenshots. Enjoy. H.A.W.X: A Brief History The "High Altitude Warfare -- Experimental Squadron" …

Metal Gear Solid Online PS3 Beta: Final Impressions

May 16, 2008 By Jonas Allen Leave a Comment

The Metal Gear Solid Online Beta will wrap up soon, marking the last time most gamers will have with one of the PS3's must-have titles of 2008. Metal Gear Solid represents the first of the stealth/action genre, a series that rewards you for sneaking around enemies rather then engaging them. This gameplay gave birth to a whole new way of looking at action games, and it's been in constant use ever since. The series has also always been on the cutting edge of graphics, and although the storytelling is a little "out there" and complex, two things …

The Bourne Conspiracy Preview: Hands-On

April 30, 2008 By Jonas Allen Leave a Comment

It's safe to say most consumers' first, if not only, exposure to Jason Bourne was the series of Bourne films starring Matt Damon. Sure, Robert Ludlum may have written a few novels, but Hollywood reigns supreme when it comes to mass-media action, and, well, Matt Damon's version of Jason Bourne is 100 percent action. With that in mind, it's a bit disconcerting to fire up The Bourne Conspiracy for the first time on the good ol' next-gen console, because Jason Bourne is (gasp) not Matt Damon. However, that doesn't mean Jason Bourne as he appears in …

Dead Space Developer Diary: DailyGame Exclusive

April 23, 2008 By Jonas Allen Leave a Comment

Dead Space, a new survival-horror franchise for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, is set to ship this Halloween, which means the development team is knee-deep in code and bug fixes. Amid the madness, the developers are updating gamers periodically via their blog -- and now, through DailyGame as well. In this exclusive article, EA has provided DailyGame readers a complete look at what they'll be posting in the next Dead Space blog entry. We know you like "insider" information, and EA has been kind enough to give us a sneak peek at what the rest of the …

Darksiders: Wrath of War Preview (PS3, Xbox 360)

April 11, 2008 By Jonas Allen Leave a Comment

The most successful action games of late have featured characters and/or times of historical significance. Kratos (God of War) relied heavily on Greek mythology, for instance, while Altair (Assassin's Creed) jumped his way through the Third Crusade. But no characters or period is quite as universally recognized as the four horsemen and the apocalypse, which will provide not only the basis of THQ's action game Darksiders: Wrath of War, but some fantastic story fodder from which the developers can draw. Darksiders: Wrath of War takes players …

Saints Row 2 Preview: Hands-On

April 8, 2008 By Jonas Allen Leave a Comment

It's quite an accomplishment to go from "cute little GTA 3 clone" to "distinct open-world game that gamers are excited about," but that's exactly what THQ's Saints Row 2 has achieved. Before the original game's launch, Saints Row was viewed as little more than a "me too" title, an open-world gangster game unabashedly trying to capitalize on Rockstar's success with the Grand Theft Auto series. But as gamers actually played Saints Row, as they really got into its optional activities and gameplay, the game developed its own following, one that's …

Saints Row 2 Preview: Co-Op Multiplayer

April 8, 2008 By Jonas Allen Leave a Comment

When Crackdown shipped for Xbox 360, it proved that online co-op in open-world games was not only feasible but incredibly enjoyable. The crew at Volition and THQ were apparently taking notes, because amid all the improvements and additions to Saints Row 2 (read our hands-on Saints Row 2 preview), the team is also including hop-in/hop-out online co-op. This feature isn't just a simple tack-on addition, though; it's turning into as core a feature in Saints Row 2 as it was in Gears of War. And that importance (and fun) is what compelled us to …

Red Faction Guerilla Preview: Hands-On

April 7, 2008 By Jonas Allen Leave a Comment

With the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 hardware, many developers claim they're finally able to achieve destructible environments. The thing is, Red Faction achieved it in 2001 on the PlayStation 2. With that background, it's not surprising to see Volition pushing the envelope once again with Red Faction: Guerilla, which ships for PS3 and Xbox 360 later this year. As the third game in the series, Red Faction: Guerilla marks a step forward for the franchise, both in plotline and technology. But more important, it marks a step forward for …

LOST: Via Domus Review

March 21, 2008 By Jonas Allen Leave a Comment

Faithful followers of ABC's Lost have had to wait more than three seasons for Ubisoft to release the first official videogame adaptation of the hit mysterious drama. As Lost: Season Four's climatic eighth episode's jaw-dropping cliffhanger approaches (c'mon, it's inevitable), the arrival of Ubisoft's Lost: Via Domus brings with it the promise of a new chapter in the Lost saga, seamlessly intertwined with the show's canon, characters and locations. Gamers unfamiliar with the show need not apply; Via Domus is strictly for the hardcore Lost …

Echochrome Preview

March 11, 2008 By Jonas Allen Leave a Comment

Shown publicly at E3 2007, Echochrome garnered buzz with its simple look and unique presentation. Echochrome is a puzzle game, but with a unique twist: each level has players controlling the level's perspective. Although this gameplay mechanic is hard to describe in words, it's visually understandable in seconds. Basically, imagine an M.C. Escher drawing that players can rotate and pitch, thereby altering the optical illusion to solve the riddle (e.g. making "up" suddenly become "down" to navigate your avatar through each maze). Players have …
