The Skylanders franchise has long been popular among kids and families, with a few new gameplay elements being added with each new entry in the series. Now Activision is actually adding new Elements — note the capital “e” — via new Skylanders Light and Dark elements that are coming through some new retail expansion packs.
Our editor first saw hints of the new Skylanders Light and Dark elements during his hands-on preview time at Toys for Bob earlier this year. But while he could his fellow staffers about it, we were all sworn to secrecy. Now the full details about the new Skylanders Light and Dark elements has been officially unveiled, so we’re pleased to tell you more.
Two special Light and Dark Element expansion packs are available exclusively at Toys R Us for Skylanders Trap Team starting today. The expansions include two new Trap Masters, Knight Mare and Knight Light, as well as a special Trap capable of capturing either Light or Dark villains. Knight Light is shown above. Knight Mare is a purplish pegasus (winged horse) with a big sword.
As we’ve seen in previous Skylanders adventure packs, the new Light and Dark Element expansion packs also include a “location piece” that unlocks a special level in Trap Team. The Light and Dark Element Expansion Packs cost $29.99.
Portal Masters will have the opportunity to explore new levels within the Skylanders Trap Team universe, where they will find never-before-seen villains to capture and environments to explore. Amongst these villains are Luminous and Nightshade, who belong to the Doom Raiders – the elite members of Kaos’ army of Skylands’ most notorious bad guys.
With the Light and Dark elements come a series of new backstory-related adventures. This first batch explores how, long ago, Knight Light and Knight Mare were both protectors of Skylands until they were sealed-off in other realms. Now that they have joined the Trap Masters, Knight Light can wield his Traptanium Blade while Knight Mare can unleash her deadly Traptanium Lance to bring down evil everywhere.
