You guys all hyped up for starcraft?  I'd only been in development for a few decades now.

I have played WH40K and purchased all the expansions. I really like the series.  Looking forward to purchasing the Dawn of War II series, waiting for it to come down another $10 before I tag it.  I love the storyline and the many factions to choose from - I'm hoping that they will continue the series.  Comand and Conquer series didn't appeal to me more than WH40K did.  Another RTS that's an oldie but goodie that I loved was Rise of Nations.

Ok, I plays both the 3rd installment of Fate (Demo) and Torchlight (Demo).  Both have similar qualities and concepts, but I have to be biased towards Torchlight with the rich graphics and additional quirks that you don't get with Fate.  I would defintely pick Torchlight over Fate.  Now the question is, should I wait for a CD-Rom copy to be available in stores or do I download it from the web and make a backup copy on CD.  Oh wait, I need money first.  Maybe Xmas Smiley

The magic user is a joy.  My favorite spell by far is like the cyclops super laser beam from Xmen, except blue and cooler looking.   While your firing it you can swing the beam around with your mouse like you're character's holding a fire hose and just fry everything around you.

But it's not powerful enough to stop the larger minions from walking up and whacking me, for that I have to switch to the bomb spell that drops from above leaving a circle of damage on the ground.  The spell is no good for things that are moving quickly at you, because it's somewhat slow to cast and just the way it works.

So I have to switch back and fourth between these two primary spells (Tab key).  It's a blast that's fun to play.

I'll be zapping my way through everything and suddenly get ambused by a large party of monsters. I need to adjust quickly.  If there's enough of them I quickly raise a zombie squad (mapped to the 5 key), that distracts them while I focus on the boss with the bomb spell.   watching my health and mana. I may cast another spell if I can squeeze it in there (SILENCE! spell I mapped to 4 key) that blocks my targets magical abilities for a short period of time.  That helps.

If my dog gets taken out (which happens quite a lot here at the end of the game) I cast a health spell to bring him back.  When the dog "dies" he simply stops fighting and runs off.   And you notice when he's missing (especially when you send him on a trip to town), because he really does have your back.

Good times.

I saw the X-play review of Assassin's Creed 2. They maped the cities of Venice, Rome, and Florence into the game. You can recognize historic buildings from those cities.

I saw an Assassin's Creed commercial last night, and even though it wasn't very good my eyes were wide and I was biting my nails.  I don't know if I'm going to be able to hold off until Xmas.

Warhammer 40k Dawn of War 2.  Probably the best RTS out there right now.  Amazing single player, great multiplayer, easy to learn but has enough of a learning curve to keep you coming.

Been playing it for the better half of a year.

What would be really neat is when the pieces capture each other, it turns into a "Street Fighter" mode screen - where the pieces are full size using combos and special abilities based on the environment grid that they are on.
