OK, our review of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is now live. In the review, we avoided spoilers, but I wanted to throw this forum thread up here for all those people who either can't wait to hear the major plot points or who aren't going to play the game and want to know what events connect Episodes III and IV.

If you do not want to know these things, stop reading this thread now! Otherwise, read below for some serious spoilers.

No really, I'm serious. If you don't want to know these The Force Unleashed spoilers, close this thread. Consider yourself warned.

OK, so here are the major plot points. A couple of these actually had me gasping.

  • Darth Vader starts the Rebel Alliance. He sends the Apprentice off to start the Rebel Alliance as a way to hide him from the Emperor, but also to distract the Emperor from Vader's true desire to overthrow him.
  • The Apprentice dies in the end. Yes, you knew it would happen, but I'm here to tell you it's official. However, he DOES end up inspiring and assembling the Rebellion, so...
  • The family coat of arms for the Apprentice ends up being the Rebel Alliance's logo/icon.
  • Princess Leia makes a cameo in the game, and in fact, players get to rescue her in one mission.
  • Players fight Darth Maul in the third-to-last boss fight. The Apprentice's training droid, PROXY, always has as his "primary goal" killing the Apprentice (the ultimate training motivator). Near the end, PROXY ends up transforming into all of the bosses players have faced in the game. When he appears defeated, be busts out with "Master, there's one program you haven't seen yet." Then the Episode I music kicks up and he becomes Darth Maul. An EPIC moment.
  • You can kill Vader if you want to. This non-canon ending is almost like an Easter Egg. If you don't want to take on the Emperor at the end, you can instead jump down onto the bottom platform and take on Vader. If you defeat him, the entire Rebel Alliance never happens, and you become Palpatine's new second-in-command (albeit as darn near a complete droid, because you're so screwed up).

I told you you were warned. Those are some major spoilers. Smiley

What? What's wrong with those? I thought they were great, personally.

Um, WTF, dude. How can you say "all of them are wrong?" Lucas endorsed it!

I personally found the "Vader starts the Alliance" thing to be fascinating. And it totally makes sense. It's in a Sith's nature to betray, PLUS Palpatine basically made Anakin lose his love. Why wouldn't he want to unseat him? Seriously, the narrative in Force Unleashed is better than anything in the prequels. I know that's not saying much, but it really did make me connect the dots better between the two trilogies. Play the game...you'll see.

Lucas has done far more harm to the series by trying to "explain" things.

It is precisely why I'm passing on this.

I don't need/want that explanation, it doesn't need one.

Lucas can suck it.

This has nothing to do with game however just the story Wink

So you didn't want to know how the Rebel Alliance got started? I think you're alone on that one. Smiley

Actually, I didn't need it explained. It makes sense that any time you have a tyrranical government, there's always a revolution. Now to  have him explain it as "The rebels don't realize they are just pawn" kind of sucks. Though it IS a creative turn in the story, it's as irritating as taking the Force and having to explain it later as "you got cooties in your blood."

What Cal said  Wink

I know damn well how the Alliance started I don't need a new "insert name here* character to spell it out.

Fine, be that way. It's still a fantastic connector between Episodes 3 and 4. Tongue

Ok, I'm trying to figure this out, having finished the game (once) on the Wii.  My friend told me about the Proxy fight, and it blew me away because it never happened to me. In fact, something very different happened with Proxy.. but that's another spoiler..   Smiley

So, are there storyline differences between platforms or is there a chance I will have to fight Proxy on the second time through? How much does the gameplay change when you play through multiple times?

Also, I didn't really see a chance to kill Vader, I had to fight him AND the Emperor.

Welcome JFStan   Smiley

I can't see there being an option to kill Vader in this game otherwise why form the rebellion  Cheesy

But I haven't played anything but the demo so don't take my word for it.

Expansion is coming, new map, new skins, no cost amount yet.

Kinda geeky question but have you tried it out with those light saber controllers Huh

Hmm, you never fought Proxy? He never turned into all the bosses you'd faced before and then turned into Darth Maul at the end? Maybe there's a content difference between the Wii and the X360 and PS3 versions. What happened to Proxy as you were playing? That might help us solve the riddle here.

As for the alternate ending, on the X360 and PS3 versions, you would normally fight both Vader and the Emperor, just like you did on the Wii. However, you can get the alternate ending, after you defeat Vader, look down to your right before you jump over to attack the Emperor. You should see Vader down there on a lower platform without his mask on. If you jump down there, Vader will come back at you for one final battle. Once you defeat him, you'll see the closing cinematic where you basically become the new Vader.
