Call of Duty 4 Multiplayer Beta Confirmed

After Microsoft mentioned the Call of Duty 4 multiplayer beta in its E3 2007 press conference, Activision confirmed that the beta will, in fact, take place over Xbox Live this August.
The beta will of course include maps and weapons, but in terms of functionality, it will also let players test the game's party system and its join-in-progress matchmaking -- a feature that sounds pretty sweet, if we do say so ourselves.
