Uwe Boll: Will He Screw Up Blu-ray, Too?

Twentieth Century Fox today announced that "In The Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale: Unrated Director's Cut" will release on Blu-ray. Normally a videogame-based movie coming to Blu-ray is good news. Thing is, this one's directed by Uwe Boll.

Yeah. Lord only knows the unspoken evil that will be contained in this "Unrated Director's Cut."

Fox promises "a thrilling fantasy film based on the legendary video game Dungeon Siege," and an "epic tale [that] chronicles the adventure of a simple family man who reluctantly turns into a warrior after an army of murderous beasts ransacks his peaceful village, killing his son and capturing his wife. Facing death in the name of honor, he begins his treacherous search and comes face-to-face with his true destiny."

You want to know the destiny of this movie, though? Where gamers are concerned, its destiny is "garbage-can filler."

Maybe not. We can hope, right? I mean, get a load of the features: it will be authored in BD-J on a dual-layer 50GB disc and presented in widescreen (2.35:1 aspect ratio) with English 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio plus English and Spanish subtitles. And the bonus features? Well, here they are:

  • BD Exclusive -- Unrated Director's Cut featuring over 35 minutes of footage
  • BD Exclusive -- Audio commentary with director Uwe Boll

OK, so the features aren't too numerous. But any bets how many people will buy the Blu-ray just to listen to (and get infurated by) Uwe Boll's comments on his artistic representation of the Dungeon Siege universe?
