Wii Music to Ship on October 20

Nintendo today unveiled the official release date for Wii Music: October 20. Wii Music, like its Wii Sports kin, is designed to be easy enough for kids to pick up and play yet deep enough to entertain adults. What we played at E3 2008, though, was a downright wreck.

And no, we weren't alone in those sentiments.

Wii Music lets players improvise jams on the fly with more than 60 instruments, from electric guitar and trumpet to saxophone and steel drums. Players simply select their instruments, and then move their Wii Remote and Nunchuk as if they were playing the real thing. Think of it as air guitar on steroids. Only not fun, and with more instruments.

At E3, the game was hard to control and seemed completely pointless. But, thousands upon thousands of people are still bound to pick it up because it's a Nintendo game. If you're one of them, you can look forward to playing more than 50 songs from a variety of genres, including popular, licensed, classical and Nintendo songs.
