MAG Ship Date for PS3: January 26, 2010

Two E3s ago, Sony Computer Entertainment America announced that Zipper Interactive wasn't working on a new SOCOM game, but a new franchise altogether, and one that would tackle 256-player online shootouts on the PS3. Needless to say, that latter information about the game known as MAG got gamers' attention.

Well, SCEA has finally announced a ship date for MAG: January 26, 2010.

So, in just six short months, PS3 owners will finally test their mettle against 255 other online gamers battling it out for warfare supremacy. In MAG, players will form their own subgroups, each with their own specialty, much like the real-world armed forces each play to their strengths and rely on one another to stick to their guns, literally and figuratively.

Strategic play and teamwork will be key to success in MAG, but let's be honest: there are plenty of people who are going to fire it up and look for nothing but a frag fest. There will certainly be opportunities for fragging, with online battles of this scope, but if you don't believe us about the need for working strategically within a team, check out this video to see the game in action.
