Watching the Boston Red Sox take on the Orioles is probably one of the biggest MLB opening day games fans have been looking forward to. Baltimore was the only team in the AL East last year with a winning record (11-8) against the Boston Red Sox, and Baltimore expects to be even better in 2014.
Considering Baltimore missed the playoffs last season, the Orioles have even more motivation to beat the defending World Series champions. Baltimore recently added pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez, who will start Wednesday night, and slugger Nelson Cruz joins a lineup that led the majors in home runs last season.
Today the Orioles will have Chris Tillman take the mound, while Boston Red Sox left-hander Jon Lester who make his fourth consecutive MLB opening day start. Victorino strained his hamstring while running the bases in Saturday’s exhibition finale. Although he accompanied the team to Baltimore, he went back to Boston yesterday to receive an MRI today.
Victorino batted .294 with 15 homers and 61 RBIs in 122 games last season for the defending World Series champions.
