No team in the NFL is happier than the Kansas City Chiefs that Philadelphia decided to drop Andy Reid like a bad habit. Just five weeks into the 2013 NFL season, Andy Reid has already doubled last season’s win total in Kansas City. With a showdown today against the 3-1 Tennessee Titans, Reid can extend it further, as Jake Locker won’t be playing quarterback for the Titans, thus giving the Chiefs’ seventh-ranked defense the green light to go after replacement QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. The game should be among the week’s best, so if you can’t catch it on CBS, watch Chiefs vs Titans online streaming live for free using these links.
Kickoff of the Chiefs vs Titans game is slated for 1pm Eastern / 10am Pacific, and it’ll be interesting to see just how early the Titans can establish their running game against the Chiefs’ defense. Losing QB Jake Locker last week put a damper on the Titans’ air attack, and although the Titans haven’t turned the ball over yet this year, replacement QB Fitzpatrick turned the ball over way too much when he was playing with the Buffalo Bills. As such, the Titans may rely even more on Jamaal Charles, who isn’t only the Chiefs’ top rusher, but their top receiver as well. In fact, he ranks third in the NFL in yards from scrimmage with 125.5 per game.
The Titans also have a bit extra motivation as they try to win three straight overall for the first time since 2011. The Chiefs, naturally, have their own shot at history today, and it may actually trump Tennessee’s. Not only are the Chiefs trying to go 5-0 for the first time in 10 years, they’re trying to become the first team in NFL history to win its first five games of the season after winning two or fewer contests the previous year. If that’s not sufficient motivation to watch Chiefs vs Titans online streaming live for free or on CBS, I don’t know what is.
Through the first four weeks of the season, the Chiefs have allowed a league-best 10.3 points per game and recorded an NFL-high 18 sacks. The result is the league’s seventh-ranked defense, although the Titans aren’t far behind with the NFL’s ninth-ranked D. The offensive games are a different story for both teams, although the 4-0 Chiefs definitely have the edge, with a 22nd-ranked passing game compared to the Titans’ 29th, a 13th-ranked rushing game to Tennessee’s 14th, and a 17th-ranked overall offense compared to the Titans’ 29th-ranked offensive game.
With those figures, it’s no surprise that the Chiefs are favored to beat the Titans by almost every ESPN analyst and, more important, Vegas bookies, which have the Chiefs as 2.5-point favorites. That doesn’t sound like much of a spread, but the home team generally gets about three points, so to see the visiting Kansas City Chiefs get a 2.5-point line practically means they’re favored by six points if all things were equal.
With Jake Locker out for four to six weeks, the chances for the Chiefs to cover the spread — and maybe blow right past it — are really quite high. You can see if they succeed by watching the game live on CBS or, if you aren’t near an HDTV, choosing to watch Chiefs vs Titans online streaming live for free on CBS’ website or on DirecTV with the NFL package.
