One of the busiest booths at E3 2013 was Disney Interactive, largely because of their t-shirt press but also because of Disney Infinity, a new game a la Skylanders where real-life toys can be placed on a portal to have that figure/character appear in the on-screen game. I’ve long been a fan of the Disney Parks and Pirates of the Caribbean, so I was eager to see what Disney had up its sleeve for those franchises in Disney Infinity. Lucky me, I got to see Captain Barbossa and Davy Jones.
I was fortunate enough to walk away with a Davy Jones figure, which like other figure-based games will work on the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U or any other version of the game. Granted, I have to wait until later this summer to see them in action once again, but at least I’ll be able to have my kids play with these toys in the meantime. If you’re a parent like whose kids like Disney as much as mine, you’re likely going to want to pre-order Disney Infinity
We’ve filmed a series of videos following E3 to highlight the various Disney Infinity toys and features. This video showcases the aforementioned Davy Jones figure, which very cleverly happens to include his monkey as well. Each character has a different visual feel, and it seems that the different franchises (via the Disney Infinity play sets) each has a different toy designer as well. So, what you’ll see of the Davy Jones toy in this video looks remarkably different from The Lone Ranger or Cars toys we’ll explore in future videos.
