The free-to-play scene has a whole bunch of fans, but we didn’t expect to see those same fans clamoring to breed digital animals. Apparently that’s the case, though, as Warframe PS4 Update 14 has added the ability to create custom Kubrows.
A new Quest in the Warframe PS4 Update 14 unlocks a Genetic Foundry, which is used to breed biological specimens on your ship. Using the Foundry, players can collect a Kubrow egg and incubate it, experimenting with different Kubrow personality types to gain different combat and non-combat abilities.
For instance, players can make their Kubrow more effective in combat by caring for it and equipping powerful link mods. Once you’ve got the perfect pet, you can then create genetic imprints of your Kubrow and trade them with fellow Tenno to further combine and refine your pet.
Breeding pets in Warframe is the most unexpected addition to Update 14, but plenty of more practical enhancements are also included.
For instance, a new Warframe called Mirage, a master of illusion, has powers that include:
- Hall of Mirrors – Mirage creates an entourage of doppelgangers to distract and confuse the enemy.
- Sleight of Hand – A natural prankster, Mirage booby-traps nearby objects.
- Eclipse – Standing in light, Mirage becomes the main attraction, dealing heavy damage. While the shadows make Mirage difficult to track and even harder to hurt.
- Prism – Fires an energy orb that shoots lasers in all directions. Activating again detonates the orb, blinding nearby foes.
Warframe PS4 update 14 also adds more quests and adds re-playable Quests with unlockable difficulty selection. The first such new Quest is called Vor’s Prize.
A new player-versus-player game mode called Dark Sectors Conflicts has also been added, replacing the existing Dark Sectors Solar Rails mode. In this new mode, players can choose which Clan or Alliance they wish to support and play the role of Attacker or Defender in an objective-based mission. The mode supports up to four human players per side, with empty player slots auto-filled by Spectres.
Update 14 also adds two new weapons, the Akzani, a fast-firing dual pistol setup; and Silva and Aegis, a sword-and-board style weapon.
The Warframe PS4 Update 14 is now available on the PlayStation Store and can be downloaded for free.
