There’s a perception held by many that The Crew is racing only onto PS4 and Xbox One. The misconception is understandable, considering Ubisoft’s paid so much attention to the next-gen versions. But lo and behold, The Crew is coming to one current-gen system, and in fact The Crew on Xbox 360 release date is right around the corner.
The Crew will release on November 11 for Xbox 360 in addition to Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC. This information comes directly from Ubisoft, though a review of the official The Crew website shows no indication of a current-gen version.
Interestingly, a PS3 version of The Crew does not appear to be in the works. Presumably the PS4 selling like hotcakes eliminated the need for a PS3 edition. The omission is still notable, if for no other reason than its novelty.
“It’s Ubisoft’s objective to continue to meet the needs of consumers who have not yet made the move to the new console generation,” said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing, Ubisoft. “The Crew was originally built for the new generation of consoles, but we have always had a desire to make it accessible to as many people as possible. We’re excited to bring The Crew’s same core features, massive scope, mission variety and overall driving experience to Xbox 360 players.”
The Crew won the official E3 Game Critics Award for Best Racing Game, beating out such titles as Sony’s DriveClub and Microsoft’s Forza Horizon 2.
Beating out the DriveClub is particularly notable, considering both games are like racing game MMOs. The Crew is an “action-driving MMO” that takes gamers through an open world re-creation of the United States.
As players traverse the U.S. they’ll encounter unique challenges posed by the core game itself as well as the real-life players also participating in the game.
Asobo Studio is leading development of The Crew on Xbox 360, with support from the teams at Ivory Tower, Ubisoft Reflections and Ubisoft Shanghai.
A limited number of players will be invited to participate in The Crew beta on Xbox One and PS4. Registration for the closed beta opened yesterday via a sort of lottery system. The Crew beta on Xbox One and PS4 starts in late September.
PC gamers participated in and completed their own version of The Crew beta in June.
