At the beginning of last season, nobody in their right mind would’ve had a debate about wanting Eli Manning or Geno Smith as their starting quarterback. Then the regular season happened. Manning had the worst season of his career, throwing enough interceptions (27?!) that at one point NY Giants fans were calling for a trade. Geno Smith, meanwhile, looked lost at times but showed signs of improving as the season went on. Which leads us to tonight’s Jets / Giants game. The QB duel remarkably isn’t on TV, but there are several ways to watch NY Giants vs NY Jets live online streaming preseason week 3 if you want to see how the quarterbacks fare.

In spite of their 3-0 preseason record, the Giants are an offensive train wreck with their starters. The Giants coaching staff admitted to not preparing any game plans for their previous three games, though they have prepared for tonight’s Jets game. Against the Jets’ defense, which ranked third in the league last season and has shown no signs of letting up in the preseason, that’s a good thing.

With that said, their preparations this week appear to show signs of confusion. And that doesn’t bode well for a still-struggling Eli Manning. Coach Tom Coghlin reportedly tinkered with his offensive line all week in practice, with left tackle Will Beatty and right tackle Justin Pugh moving around, and Geoff Schwartz and Brandon Mosley getting reps at right tackle while rookie Weston Richburg played guard. That’s not exactly good news for Eli Manning, who’s already way down ESPN’s NFL Rank list at No. 62.

The NY Jets have concerns as well, most notably trying to avoid injury. In these teams’ 2013 preseason game Mark Sanchez went down with a season-ending shoulder injury in a fourth-quarter coaching blunder of epic proportions. The silver lining, of course, was inserting Geno Smith into the starting lineup, who took the starting QB role and played all 16 games as a rookie.

This season, Smith has none other than Michael Vick as his backup, which will calm some nerves if Rex Ryan pulls another bone-headed fourth-quarter substitution. Smith is still the starter, both for tonight’s Giants game and the regular season, but there are worse backups to have.

Last season with the Eagles Vick completed 77 of 141 passes for 1,215 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions. He eventually gave way to Nick Foles, who, like Smith, took advantage of a starting QB’s injury and remained the starter.

Smith, meanwhile, completed 247 of 443 passes last season for 3,046 yards and 12 touchdowns. The major miscue was his 21 interceptions, which were chalked up to rookie mistakes. The chance to see Geno Smith and Eli Manning go up against one another tonight for at least the first quarter, if not the first half, should be intriguing for fans and defensive backs alike.
