Fox is preparing to release a host of classic noir films on DVD, several of which we’re giving away (check our contests page), but none of them is perhaps as good as Boomerang, a 1947 true-crime drama based on actual events in Connecticut. When a beloved priest is gunned down, the local police chief (Lee Cobb) is under enormous pressure to find his murderer. Based only on vague descriptions, he begins a massive manhunt, eventually arriving at both a suspect (Arthur Kennedy) and a confession. But the state’s attorney (Dana Andrews) is determined to convict only if it’s right, setting off a gripping noir tale from start to finish.
