Good Times his the airwaves as a mid-season replacement for CBS, unexpectedly becoming a top-10 hit for the studio. Good Times struck a chord with audiences tackling controversial subjects from a unique African-American perspective and was rewarded over the course of its 133-episode run with three Golden Globes. In spite of all those accolades, though, ’70s TV fans still think more about the show’s aloof character J.J. more than the show’s more-serious side. After all, who can ignore the phrase “Dy-No-Mite!”?
Good Times focused on the poor but proud Evans family, who lived in the projects on Chicago’s South Side. While the parents struggle to provide for the family, sons J.J. and Michael constantly cause trouble. And it went down that way for 133 episodes. Don’t believe us?
