Prototype is an open-world game unlike many others. Whereas other games of its ilk focus on heroes cleaning up the streets, Prototype has players taking an almost antihero-like role as they strive to find out why the game’s main character is the way he is: a shape-shifter.

In Prototype, players assume the role of Alex Mercer, whose shape-shifting abilities make him the ultimate weapon. The only problem is, Alex doesn’t want to be a weapon; he just wants to get to the bottom of the conspiracy that gave him his unique abilities. Naturally, these abilities lend themselves to some interesting gameplay elements, as players can transform their limbs into claws, blades, hammers and whips while they leap from building to building parkour-style through the open-world New York City environment.
