It’s only appropriate that as we celebrate a decade of Halo (hello, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary) that we see the DVD release of Red vs. Blue Season 9, a hilarious animated series that’s grown from a niche comedy about wayward Spartans in Blood Gulch to a worldwide phenomenon. When Rooster Teeth released the first few episodes of Red vs. Blue it seemed cute; now a Red vs. Blue release is darn near an event.
Before the events of the Blood Gulch Chronicles, there was Project Freelancers, an experimental military program which sought to create a new breed of warrior. This new soldier was to be faster, stronger and smarter than any other we’d seen before, which based on the previous seasons of Red vs. Blue doesn’t take much.
Adding an exciting new cast of characters to the classic ensemble, this narrative — part action prequel and part hilarious sequel — unveils the mystery behind Project Freelancer and its dire consequences for the Reds and Blues.
