Wondrous and imaginative, the paper cutout world of Creativium is warm and inviting. The antithesis of harsh computer-generated graphics, the textured paper universe beckons to young children. Kids view the many elements on this virtual stage as art so simple that they could have created it themselves. Each movable animal character and fixed element of the landscape is expressed with the absolute minimum number of paper pieces, capturing its essence in only two dimensions.
Every one of the 10 characters, including a fox, bee, bear, owl, and tortoise has animated eyes that blink and move. When standing still, each character sways gracefully, revealing its ability to fly or scamper across the screen without warning. Touching one may cause it to merely twitch, or it may take off for the edge of the screen. Dragging one horizontally will relocate it, and dragging vertically moves it closer to or farther from the foreground.
The game’s stage, The Magic Forest, scrolls across the width of four screens. Players can side-scroll any distance they choose, creating a new set on which to stage the action. Perspective is maintained as 2D layers in the foreground scroll faster than those in the background. Flowers bloom, water flows, clouds sail, and fruit falls automatically. Kids can create new scenes by moving characters on and off the screen. There are no rules. Their imagination is encouraged to run free.
“Explore the world with Creativium, where kids embrace exploration and learn creative storytelling by staging their own unique plays and worlds,” stated Julia Nechaeva of Mechtarium. “Creativium is inherently fun and rewarding for children, encouraging their natural sense of creativity and imagination as well as developing their cognitive skills.”
