New Game, The Howler, Supports Scream-Controlled Gameplay

May 15, 2013 by Sara Leave a Comment

A new game called The Howler has released today for iOS and Android, a game of touch and scream that takes voice control to new heights. Using your voice (well, screams, actually), you control an air balloon to fly over an ancient city and work on one mission after another, picking up and delivering things. After a while, the game gets really challenging, with dungeons and bombs as obstacles.

The principle is simple: the louder you scream, the higher the balloon goes, and when you are quiet, it goes down. You use wind currents to go where you need to go. You can scream or sing any song you like, and it does get bizarre as you go through a songbook in your head.

There is also a conventional touch control for those who have touchy-feely neighbors.

The Howler is set in a real ancient city of Vilnius. The plot, reflected in succinct narrative of the missions, is based on a bestselling Lithuanian steampunk novel (English version of the book is coming soon), but it is all about the balloon action and air navigation, which will get players hooked. The appeal of the game is in the refined simplicity of controls, combined with an extensive navigation environment.
