Zurich, Switzerland – With the explosion of children’s apps available in the app store it is becoming more and more difficult for parents to find quality apps that have a proven ability to help children develop age appropriate skills.
emeeyou, an education technology company, has officially released its first app for iPad, and iPhone called Jungle Adventure. This innovative children’s game app uses a jungle setting and jungle animals to teach children search and counting skills, and how to identify colors, animals, names and sounds. The app also has a foreign language component, and allows parents to control the language that is used within the application (English, French, German and Spanish) to encourage childhood multilingualism. Ten animal characters, ten colors, ten numbers and sounds are featured in this beautifully illustrated app.
Unlike many children’s apps available in the app store today, emeeyou has undertaken research to substantiate the educational value of the Jungle Adventure app. After playing Jungle Adventure for 5-10 minutes each day for three weeks research results showed that:
* 31% of the children tested improved their knowledge of colors by 2 or more
* 45% of the children tested improved picture naming skill level by an average of more than 8 months
* 38% of the children tested improved object assembly skill level by an average of more than 10 months
“Mobile devices and well-designed applications potentially present an exciting opportunity for childhood learning,” said Dr Stefania Grbcic, a supervisor in the pilot study. “More collaborative development projects and research in this area will ensure that we truly understand and safely leverage the potential of this new learning medium.”
