London, United Kingdom – Independent publisher Nosy Crow is pleased to announce that its first free games app, The Grunts: Beards of Bees, is available now on the App Store for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. The app, a tie-in game for The Grunts book series, written by Philip Ardagh and published in the UK by Nosy Crow in September, features original artwork by The Gruffalo illustrator Axel Scheffler and is entirely free to download.
This funny, fun (and rather addictive) game requires fast fingers, quick thinking… and no fear of bees! Players have to build the biggest beard of buzzing bees as possible for Mr Grunt before the time runs out, but they have to be careful – flowers, birds, and butterflies will all make his bees fly away. Collecting bees quickly means bonus time rewards. Players can compete with friends for the highest score. You can even join the fun on Twitter, recording your score with the #beardofbees hashtag.
As well as all-new artwork by The Grunts illustrator Axel Scheffler, the app features hilarious voice narration by Philip Ardagh, an original score by BAFTA-winning composer Robin Beanland, and ingenious gameplay by Nosy Crow’s award-winning app developer team.
“It’s been great fun working on our first app for older children. The book is for children of 7 and that means that we wanted to explore a different kind of gameplay, with, for example, scoring. It’s fantastic to be able to use the app-building talents of the team to support a new publication and lead children to the book,” says Kate Wilson, Managing Director. “However, it’s a brilliantly engaging game in its own right.”
The Grunts: Beard of Bees is based on The Grunts books, written by Roald Dahl Funny Prize-winning author Philip Ardagh and illustrated by Axel Scheffler. The first book in the series, The Grunts in Trouble, will be published in the UK in September 2012. The second volume in the series, The Grunts all at Sea, is scheduled for publication in May 2013.
