Words with AI: Scrabble or Erudite?

May 28, 2013 by Sara Leave a Comment

RunServer today introduced “Words with AI” for iOS, an electronic version of the Russian Erudite game inspired by Scrabble. “Erudite” shares the same field and overall idea with Scrabble, but there are differences in game rules, number of tiles, etc. It is very popular in Europe and Asia because of advanced rules and its extended gameplay, and Words with AI marks the first time it’s appeared on iOS in English.

For words game lovers its a great challenge because of advanced AI with rich vocabulary and 5 different difficulty levels. The game is meant to enrich vocabulary and develop logical thinking. There is nothing extraneous in game mechanics or graphical design: you can play with AI or with another player on same device – there are no bluetooth or network battle options. You need to compose words on a game field with tiles of different value. There also time and score limit options as well as options to disable two-letter words or empty tile exchange. You can also chose between regular Scrabble and Erudite and rule sets. In Erudite mode starting 7-letter word is always placed on start, you can put several words at a turn and game starts with 131 total tiles unlike 104 Scrabble tiles.

Feature Highlights:
* 5 AI difficulty levels
* OSPD dictionary
* Online thesaurus for words description
* Time and score limit settings
* Options for disabling two-letter words
* Extended log for last 10 turns
* Hot seat game mode
* Full support for all iOS 4.3 – 6.2 devices including iPhone 5 and iPad Mini

Graphics resembles original board game style with wooden tiles and marble board. There are also fancy score indicators, buttons for game log, tile exchange and other options. Also you can tap on your foe’s words to get their meaning from online thesaurus dictionary. Game state and board is saved after each turn, so you can easily continue your match later.

Language Support:
* U.S. English

Device Requirements:
* iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
* Requires iOS 4.3 or later
* Universal app optimized for display on all iOS devices
* 9.4 MB

Pricing and Availability:
Words with AI 1.0.1 is completely free and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Games category. The app is ad-supported so you have to either live with it or disable ads with in-app purchases.
