World of Puzzles, 12-puzzle app featuring fairytale characters

July 18, 2013 by Sara Leave a Comment

Barcelona, Spain – Barcelona’s LaTroupe Studios has developed the second Monsters Band series. Aimed primarily at 2-6 years old, the app features 12 educational puzzles divided into two 6-game bundles designed to delight the whole family. The iPad game is called World of Puzzles and features a bunch of adorable monsters designed by illustrator Xavier Ramiro. The monsters travel around the world visiting different locations -including Barcelona, the North Pole and the pyramids in Egypt- and fairy-tales settings starring little mermaids, dragons and dwarfs, among others. Players have to place the characters and elements on the corresponding silhouettes to complete the puzzle. The music and the illustration set the pace to help children make progress.

This fun application develops children’s observation capacity, association skills, logic and memory, in addition to stimulating their creative thinking and their curiosity. This game “enhances the observation capacity, sense of space, motor skills, memory and attention span of the youngest members of the family, including children with ADD, motor difficulties and sensorial disabilities,” claims pediatric occupational therapist and director of the Ninaia centre in Sabadell (www.ninaia.com), Cristina Perez. The app is free to download, but users will be required to pay Euro0.89 to unlock the second bundle of games.

With a strong background in child education, Perez endorses the benefits of the app, when used under adult supervision. “The design allows children to set their own pace, cranking up the difficulty level when they feel comfortable. In other words, zero rush, zero frustration and excellent motivation. The app games teach children how to reason, plan and organize, helping them develop the skills needed to live a self- sufficient life.” “The original app and the characters’ funky details stimulate and motivate the children, ensuring they have fun and learn at the same time,” says the pediatric occupational therapist. Speaking of her experience at the Ninaia centre in Sabadell, “We are using the app to work on specific skills and it’s quite a hit. Kids love playing with monsters,” says Perez.

Print and color
Unlike other games, Monsters Band isn’t about racing against the clock or achieving results. Players simply collect points as they go. “I designed the app with my daughter in mind. The last thing we wanted was for this app to stress kids out. It’s really user- friendly, so children can play individually or with an adult. It’s fun for all the family,” claims Jordi Manuel Monterde, the creator of the Monsters Band series. Another innovation in the second part of Monsters Band allows users to print out black and white copies for kids to color in.

Summer vacations are a great time to discover the Monsters Band universe. These friendly monsters can make a long trip or a hot afternoon more bearable with their fun proposals. In addition to its outstanding playability, this user-friendly app stands out for its stunning illustrations, sound effects, music and interactivity. Children love cool, big, colorful graphics. Each monster is unique and has been designed using elements that children find familiar. By using large images, the buttons seem to literally “sink” and players can just “touch” the buttons without actually having to “aim.” This makes it easy to move around and get the hang of the game. The entire app has been carefully thought out to stimulate their curiosity.
