New York, New York – In honor of the star of iOS game Nyan Cat Adventure, 21st Street Games held a birthday party for Nyan Cat’s first year as one of the most viral videos on YouTube, totaling almost 70 million views since its release on April 5 of 2011.
21st Street Games held Nyan Cat’s birthday party in their NYC studio, with Nyan Cat creator Chris Torres in attendance. The party was also attended by over 6,000 viewers on USTREAM, the popular internet broadcasting website, and was featured on USTREAM’s front page. The party also gained notable attention from Mashable, Buzzfeed, and was featured on MSNBC’s Technolog in their “Pre-Caffeine Tech” column.
Also wishing Nyan Cat a happy birthday was YouTube, tweeting “@nyannyancat turns 1 year old today! #HAPPYBIRTHDAYNYANCAT” during the party, with a link to the original Nyan Cat video. The hashtag #HAPPYBIRTHDAYNYANCAT became a global trend on twitter, with thousands of people wishing the Nyan Cat Adventure character a happy 1’st birthday.
Partygoers were treated to a specially made Nyan Cat birthday cake, a Nyan Cat piata, and lots of Nyan Cat Adventure game playing on iPad, iPod and on Xbox Live Indie Arcade. At the request of USTREAM viewers, the party concluded with a dance party to the original Nyan Cat song. Videos and photos of the party can be seen on 21st Street Game’s website and YouTube channel.
