Disney’s Big Hero 6 Blu-ray Flying into Stores in Late February

January 27, 2015 by Sara Leave a Comment

Disney knows its Big Hero 6 was a great film, so it’s no surprise that the animation studio will release the Big Hero 6 Blu-ray Combo Pack just two days after the 2015 Academy Awards. The company clearly has some high expectations for the film’s Oscars prognosis, as its sales will go through the roof if the movie wins the Best Animated Film award.

And just for good measure, Amazon is running some great Big Hero 6 Blu-ray sale if you get your pre-order in soon. And by “big,” we mean “it’s around $19 instead of $39. In short: pre-order ASAP before that deal’s gone.

Big Hero 6 is a comedy adventure that introduces a new Disney character named Baymax. Baymax — not to be confused with the old Betamax cartridge format — is a lovable, personal companion robot who forms a special bond with robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada. When a devastating turn of events catapults them into the midst of a dangerous plot unfolding in the streets of San Fransokyo, Hiro turns to Baymax and his diverse group of friends — Go Go Tomago, Wasabi, whiz Honey Lemon and Fred — who transform into a band of unlikely heroes.

The Big Hero 6 Digital HD version will go live on Feb. 3, while the Big Hero 6 Blu-ray release date is scheduled for Feb. 24, two days after the Oscars.

The bonus features on the Big Hero 6 Blu-ray seem to be shaping up well, though Disney is including just one Blu-ray exclusive versus two exclusives for the Disney Movies Anywhere version.

On the Big Hero 6 Blu-ray Disc, Disney is including the FEAST Theatrical Short; a featurette called “The Origin Story of Big Hero 6: Hiro’s Journey,” a behind-the-scenes feature with the creative team that includes their research trips to Tokyo and San Francisco and interviews with Marvel’s Joe Quesada and Jeph Loeb, who were consultants on the film; and a feature called Big Animator 6: The Characters Behind the Characters, in which the six lead animators talk about the characters.

Also included is a Deleted Scenes segment that includes two alternate openings, and a Blu-ray exclusive Easter-Egg feature called Big Hero Secrets.

The Disney Movies Anywhere (Digital) version includes two exclusive bonus features. The first is a series of Gag Animations in which we get to see alternate comedic versions of certain scenes, and Beatmax, which is a recap of some of Baymax’s greatest lines — but auto-tuned.

The DVD version of Big Hero 6 will include just three bonus features: the FEAST Theatrical Short, Big Animator 6, and the Big Hero 6 Theatrical Teaser.
