EA has a lot riding on Dead Space, the company’s sci-fi survival horror game. Not only is it a new IP, but it’s a new genre, has a comic book counterpart and even has a movie to fill-in some of the game’s backstory. Today, EA and Anchor Bay announced the first details about that movie’s release.
Called Dead Space: Downfall, the feature-length movie prequel will ship on Blu-ray and DVD on October 28. The movie-release partner, Anchor Bay, makes total sense for EA, as that studio is known for releasing horror films on DVD and Blu-ray.
Both the DVD and the Blu-ray will feature a deleted scene, trailers and hidden cheat codes for the game. The 25GB Blu-ray will feature 1080p AVC video and English True HD and DTS-HD tracks. It will also have a Spanish subtitle track. In a first for Anchor Bay Entertainment, a CD soundtrack in MP3 format presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 can be downloaded via BD-Live features, as can animatics and other Dead Space: Downfall extras. The Blu-ray will also feature a separate standard definition DVD with digital copies for the PC and PlayStation Portable
Dead Space: Downfall, produced and animated by Film Roman (“The Simpsons,” “King of the Hill”) will complete the story arc that has preceded the game. In the film, an ancient religious artifact has been recovered by a deep-space mining ship, and for the crew of the USG Ishimura, life just became a living hell. Unearthed on a far-away planet during a mining operation, the relic is worshiped by some, even seen as proof of God. But when it’s removed from its resting place and brought on the ship, the artifact unleashes a long-dormant alien race, one bent on ripping apart — and taking over — every human aboard.
Dead Space the video game will ship for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on October 21 (the PC version comes on October 28).
