Fox Home Entertainment today announced that the original full-length bat-film, Batman: The Movie Special Edition, will arrive on Blu-Ray Disc for the first time July 1. Fox will also make available a limited-run (only 5,000 copies) special-edition Blu-ray Disc packaged with a 1/18th scale Batmobile.
Starring Adam West (Batman) and Burt Ward (Robin), this 1966 spin-off of the popular “Batman” television series features all four of the hero’s most diabolical and cunning adversaries: the clown prince of crime, The Joker (Cesar Romero); the count of criminal conundrums, The Riddler (Frank Gorshin); the pompous waddling master of fowl play, The Penguin (Burgess Meredith); and the fiendish feline, The Catwoman (Lee Meriwether).
Batman: The Movie Special Edition on Blu-ray Disc will include the movie itself, “Batman: A Dynamic Legacy,” a tribute to the caped crusader, and look at Gotham’s evil villains in “Gotham City’s Most Wanted.” Other bonus features will include a 360-degree navigational tour of the Batmobile and an isolated score in 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio (Lossless), an industry first for Blu-Ray Disc that allows viewers to listen to the score only.
The Special Edition Blu-ray will also include interviews and commentary by actors West, Ward and screenwriter Lorenzo Semple Jr., as well as featurettes, trivia track, galleries and trailers.
Among the featurettes are: Holy Pop-Up Trivia Track, Batman! (a pop-up video type feature), “The Batmobile Revealed” with George Barris, and Galleries from the vaults of Adam West, from the Interactive Pressbook, of the Posters, of Production Stills, from Behind the Scenes footage and from the movie’s premiere.
Batman: The Movie Special Edition will retail for $39.98 U.S. / $49.98 Canada. The version packaged with a 1/18th scale Batmobile will retail for $59.98 U.S.
You can pre-order both versions of the Blu-ray from the Amazon.com-powered DailyGame Store as soon as they become available.
