AP College Football Poll: Alabama Closes the Gap with No 1 FSU

November 24, 2014 by Sara Leave a Comment

With the Seminoles needing a desperate drive to win on Saturday, it’s not surprising that Alabama closes the gap with No 1 FSU in the latest AP College Football poll. The AP College poll’s top four teams didn’t change, but the Alabama Crimson Tide gained a few more first-place votes, as did the Oregon Ducks football team.

Florida State remained No. 1 after beating Boston College 20-17 on Saturday. However, the victory was once again in question at the half, and in fact the Seminoles needed a last-minute field goal to win.

FSU has succeeded with that formula all season, leading to an 11-0 record and the status as the only major undefeated team in college football. However, the AP college football pollsters appear to have taken note of their come-from-behind wins, awarding Alabama and Oregon a few extra first-place nods.

FSU, Alabama, Oregon and Mississippi State are the top four teams once again.

Florida State received six fewer first-place votes compared to last, with the Alabama Crimson Tide football team earning five five of them. The Oregon Ducks picked-up the other first-place vote that had previously gone to FSU, earning them two total.

Baylor and TCU switched places in the latest AP college football poll, with Baylor ranking fifth and TCU ranking sixth. The Ohio State Buckeyes came in at No. 7, with Georgia, UCLA and Michigan State rounding out the top 10.

It’s highly unlikely though not impossible that these top four teams will end the season ranked the same way. FSU and Oregon both have tough games ahead, and while Alabama and Mississippi State aren’t facing the same challenge they do have losable games.

With the top four teams in the latest AP college football poll remaining the same this week, it will be interesting to see what the College Football Playoff Committee rules Tuesday night. That’s when we’ll see the latest playoff ranking.
