Forget everything you know about handheld combat strategy games. Advance Wars: Days of Ruin ships today for the Nintendo DS, and it includes a new set of combat-ready characters, updated visuals and wireless features for multiplayer combat.
Advance Wars: Days of Ruin takes place in a dark future in which a devastating meteor strike has transformed the planet into a battleground fraught with disease and barbaric enemies. Players must use turn-based strategy to lead their units on a mission to restore humanity using a new dual-screen graphics scheme.
Players can use local networking or Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to design and share their own maps or face opponents. Solo players can command their troops in a series of tactical skirmishes, while the Free Battle mode allows up to four players to challenge one another using one Nintendo DS.
If strategy games aren’t your thing (and if so, then why are you reading this?), don’t lose hope: Nintendo is also releasing this week Endless Ocean for Wii, a scuba diving-like game in which players poke around underwater taking photos of fish, urchins and all manner of nonviolent creatures.
