With the PS3 and Xbox 360 scheduled to see radical new chapters in Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia series, owners of the Nintendo DS can now say they’re in on the action, too. Today, Ubisoft unveiled Prince of Persia: The Fallen King, which will ship exclusively for the Nintendo DS for the 2008 holiday season.
Prince of Persia: The Fallen King is going to be a “complement” to the PS3 and Xbox 360 Prince of Persia game also set to release this holiday. The DS game will expand the saga with an independent storyline and (of course) utilize the unique stylus controls of the DS to perform the extraordinary acrobatic and combat action that fans know and love about the Prince of Persia franchise.
As far as that independent storyline, here’s what we know so far. Facing imminent danger, the Prince flees to a deserted kingdom that seems to offer sanctuary. However, the kingdom has already been touched by the evil Corruption, a dark substance that physically contaminates the land and the skies. As the Prince seeks a way to keep Corruption from destroying the land, he encounters a partially infected creature that promises salvation. Although the creature may ultimately be an enemy in disguise, its alliance with the Prince may be the only way to save the Persian kingdom once and for all.
All told, this story will play out over more than 50 maps, from deserted cities and dark labyrinths to forbidding jungles. DS owners will also be able to play as the all-new Corruption-infected character, Magus. Players can switch between the Prince and this character at various points in each mission.
