Robocalypse RTS Blasts onto Nintendo DS

November 18, 2008 by Sara Leave a Comment

Robocalypse, a new real-time strategy game for Nintendo DS, is shipping to retail today courtesy of Tecmo. Robocalypse offers strategic warfare with a twist of humor, as lead their army to victory in a comical single-player story campaign penned by Jay Lender of SpongeBob Squarepants fame.

Robocalypse includes more than 10 different robot units, each with specialized skills and weapons, the latter of which includes Falling Anvils, Head-Crack’n Gauntlet and Digitizers.

As a DS game, Robocalypse supports full control via the DS Stylus, with an innovative “Action Flag” system reducing the complexity of commanding units. Rather than use buttons, players simply point and tap.

In addition to the comical single-player campaign, Robocalypse supports multiplayer modes for two to four players, both via local wireless and via multi-card play. The multiplayer modes in Robocalypse include head-to-head as well as co-op.

Now, about the humorous campaign…here’s the plot: Military routines are accidentally installed into prototype robots, turning them into hunter killers. Disaster ensues, and to save humanity, a new batch of robots is implanted with the brain scans of retired WWII vets, giving rise to an oil-swilling, brawling, robotic dirty dozen. The campaign includes 17 missions total.
