A new ‘mech game has shipped for the Nintendo DS, but it’s not exactly what you might expect. Called Drone tactics, the game from Atlus USA features colossal insect mechs — and is a turn-based strategy RPG.
Drone Tactics for DS lets players build and command their own mechanical army of drone insects, then choose from more than 100 weapons, upgrades and power-ups. The game includes dozens of campaign missions as well as 50 additional skirmish maps and head-to-head combat via local wireless play.
As a strategy game, Drone Tactics gives importance to players understanding the unique capabilities and weaknesses of each ally and foe — and then exploiting them accordingly.
Here’s the game’s basic premise: Transported to an alien world, players find themselves in the middle of a great conflict. An army of evil drones is on the march, threatening to obliterate the land of Cimexus. Its inhabitants now turn to the player to lead them in battle against the Black Swarm.
