Since Rock Band and Guitar Hero 3 launched last fall, gamers have been clamoring for a single wireless guitar that works with both games. Today, The Ant Commandos shipped the first such guitar to do that, as its Double Range Guitar is now available for $59.99.
The Double Range Guitar is the first wireless guitar to feature 100-percent compatibility with all Guitar Hero and
Rock Band games. The caveat is that it only works for the PlayStation 3 and PS2 versions. It does not work for the Xbox 360. However, it is the only guitar to be compatible with both platforms.
Ant Commandos’ Double Range Guitar uses 2.4GHz wireless technology so players can rock up to 30 feet away from the console.
Additional hardware specs include a second set of fret buttons that allows players to use the higher set for rhythm parts. The s lower five buttons are compatible with Rock Band’s Solo Guitar play, and the unit offers a five-way switch to support the sound effect feature in Rock Band. When playing Guitar Hero, the lower five buttons behave just like the top five buttons.
Other Double Range features include the new PowerThief power saving mode that turns off the controller when it senses inactivity and a Low Battery Indicator that blinks red to signal when the battery needs to be replaced. A special belt clip, the 360FLY Clip, is also included that attaches to the guitar with a single pivot point, and the Super Whammy System whammy bar provides protective control for those who are rough with their controller.
