DC Comics and Sierra Entertainment are developing a new comic book series based on the open-world PS3 and Xbox 360 game Prototype. The new comic book series is set to debut in August via DC’s WildStorm imprint.
Further details and images will be released later, including information about whether the Prototype comic books will exclusively be prequels to the videogame, whether portions will take place afterward, or even whether the comics will feature the lead character from the game.
Prototype puts gamers in control of Alex Mercer, a genetically mutated shape-shifter with no memory of his past who’s determined to solve the mystery of his existence. The plot explores a three-way war between Alex, the military and its elite Blackwatch division, as well as a viral outbreak known as the “Infected.”
“We’re blown away with what Sierra and developer Radical Entertainment have shown us of Prototype, and know with absolute certainty that this will make for a terrific comic book,” said Hank Kanalz, VP & General Manager of WildStorm. “Prototype’s back-story, visuals and gameplay are stunning, and we have every intention of bringing those core pillars to our book, because this is a great opportunity to expand on the world they’ve created and build something new and interesting for comics fans.”
Prototype will ship this fall for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
