Disney has announced it will release at least 15 3D Blu-ray movies in 2011, including Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King. In light of all the movies Disney plans to release on 3D Blu-ray in 2011, it’s safe to say that the year ahead could be a fantastic one for the 3D Blu-ray format if the other studios go as all-out as Disney will.
Included in Disney’s 3D Blu-ray slate for 2011 are Tron: Legacy, Tangled, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Bolt, Meet the Robinsons, Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, G-Force and Chicken Little. For those counting at home, that’s nine movies total, meaning Disney still has yet to announce at least seven 3D Blu-ray releases. Logical candidates to round out the 15 are Pirates of the Caribbean 4, the entire Toy Story trilogy and UP, although those are pure conjecture at this point. All Disney said in its announcement was “many others to be announced that will release day-and-date and packaged with the Blu-ray 2D version.”
