Dragon Age Inquisition Multiplayer Getting Four-Player Co-Op

October 7, 2014 by Sara

One of the biggest draws of The Elder Scrolls series is its massive scope, but its biggest drawback on a console has so far been its lack of multiplayer support. Its nearest competitors in this console generation appear to be The Witcher 3 and Dragon Age: Inquisition, with BioWare announcing some Dragon Age Inquisition news that will make all fantasy RPG fans gleeful: Dragon Age Inquisition multiplayer will be a four-player affair.

Having co-op dungeon crawling is one thing, but having it available as part of the Dragon Age Inquisition multiplayer experience is quite another. We’ve all gone RPG spelunking before, but the ability to do so in a next-gen game of this scope is outstanding.

The Dragon Age Inquisition multiplayer co-op won’t be part of the main campaign, but part of a stand-alone multiplayer mode. Created alongside the single-player campaign, the co-op mode marks the first time gamers will be able to play alongside their friends in the Dragon Age franchise.

The Dragon Age Inquisition multiplayer mode will feature quests separate from the open-world single-player story. In some respects it sounds similar to Bungie’s approach to Destiny multiplayer, though a bit less integrated than in the sci-fi shooter.

All co-op quests and objectives will involve exploring intricate dungeons, vanquishing enemies, collecting loot, crafting weapons and armor, and even unlocking new characters. At launch, players will be able to unlock up to 12 characters across the three Inquisition classes: Warrior, Rogue and Mage.

As you’d expect, each of the classes plays a different and strategic role in multiplayer combat. However, anything you unlock or any XP you gain in the Dragon Age Inquisition multiplayer mode will be part of that standalone experience only. Per EA, it “will not have an impact on single player progression or story.”

We already couldn’t wait to get our hands on the game, but hearing about its co-op multiplayer mode makes the wait even harder. Dragon Age: Inquisition will ship Nov. 18 for PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360.
