Attention, Dragon Ball Z fans: your beloved franchise is making the leap to the next generation. Bandai Namco has announced that Dragon Ball Xenoverse will appear on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in addition to the PS3 and Xbox 360.
A Dragon Ball Xenoverse release date has not yet been announced. It’s not likely that the game will be a timed-exclusive on any platform.
Developed by Osaka-based developer Dimps, which created the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai series, Dragon Ball Xenoverse will include all the epic battles fans have come to expect between Goku and feared enemies including Vegeta, Frieza and Cell.
Dimps is implementing some new gameplay design elements to leverage the PS4 and Xbox One hardware, though Bandai Namco’s being tight-lipped as of yet about what those specific changes will be.
The company did share, however, that Dragon Ball Xenoverse will take the beloved universe “break tradition” with a new world setup, a mysterious city, a mysterious fighter and “other amazing features” to be announced in the future.
“Amazing” is a relative term, so we’ll see how radical the gameplay changes really are. However, simply hearing that there’s a new DBZ game in the works, and that Dragon Ball Xenoverse is headed to the next-gen consoles, is “amazing” enough for DBZ fans.
