There’s a new 2D side-scrolling platformer on the way to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but it’s not from a company you’d expect to release this type of game: Electronic Arts. Of course, the game isn’t an entirely new IP; it’s a console-exclusive version of the proven and popular Flash game The Fancy Pants Adventures.
EA and Borne Games today took the wraps off of a console-exclusive version of the Flash-based sensation The Fancy Pants Adventures. The game, slated to release in the Spring of 2011, is coming to Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network alone (no retail SKU). The Fancy Pants Adventures is being developed by Over The Top Games in partnership with Borne Games and EA 2D.
What’s that? EA 2D? Glad you asked. EA 2D is “a dedicated team inside of EA focused on creating high-quality games within the direct-to-consumer market.” In other words: casual downloadable games, folks.
The Fancy Pants Adventures is a side-scrolling platformer with unique, hand-drawn style and has been played more than 100 million times on Internet browsers. This is the first time the game will hit a non-computer platform. The Fancy Pants Adventures for Xbox 360 and PS3 will take all of the exciting adventures from the original two games and add an entirely new world, an all-new story and new modes designed exclusively for both consoles.
The Fancy Pants Adventures casts players in the role of the game’s hero – a hand-drawn stick figure named Fancy Pants Man who embarks on a mission to rescue his kidnapped sister, Cutie Pants. Sporting his trademark orange pants and a Mohawk, Fancy Pants Man begins his journey in Squiggleville, racing through unique open levels where he must defeat challenging enemies and overcome clever obstacles. Along the way, Fancy Pants will need to utilize a number of tricks and even unlock the ability to wield weapons in order to aid him on his quest to overcome the Pirates.
We’ll bring you more information about the game as it becomes available, but even just hearing this news is bound to please a ton of gamers.
