John Cena Named WWE 2K15 Cover Superstar

July 28, 2014 by Sara Leave a Comment

WWE 2K15 marks the first time the wrestling franchise will appear on PS4 or Xbox One. It’ll also mark the first time John Cena will grace its cover, as Cena has been named the WWE 2K15 cover athlete.

In WWE’s terms, Cena is technically the “cover superstar.” But whatever.

WWE 2K15 is being developed for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4 and PS3. The WWE 2K15 release date is Oct. 28 in North America and Oct. 31 internationally. It will release simultaneously on all platforms, without any hubbub over timed exclusivity.

Cena has established himself both in and out of the squared circle as a champion. Cena has appeared in numerous film, TV and musical projects, and he’s also granted more than 400 Make-A-Wish wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses.

That’s where Cena’s a true champion, and where we’re frankly glad people CAN see him. That tally represents more granted wishes than any other celebrity. Though with any luck Cena isn’t tracking that metric himself, just his agent.

“With his outstanding record of accomplishments in WWE and beyond, the iconic John Cena is the perfect WWE Superstar to represent the WWE 2K franchise as we launch the first-ever WWE video game on next-generation consoles,” said Chris Snyder, Vice President of Marketing at 2K. “Along with monumental gameplay, graphical and presentation improvements, we are confident that Cena will drive WWE 2K15 to cement its spot in history as the greatest WWE video game released to date.”

“It is truly an honor and privilege to serve as the WWE 2K15 cover Superstar,” Cena said in a release. “2K has a tremendous history of sports simulation games and cover athletes, including Michael Jordan, Kevin Durant, LeBron James and of course, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. I look forward to carrying the flag for WWE 2K15 and introducing the incredible next-generation of WWE gaming to the WWE Universe.”

While it’s clear the 2K marketing machine will never back down and never quit, let’s hope WWE 2K15 is here to represent next-gen wrestling.
