Sure, GTA IV is coming out one week from today, but Rockstar wants us to all remember that they’ve been working on more than just the Grand Theft Auto game. In fact, they’ve been working rather hard on the next Midnight Club racing game, which today got an official release date.
Midnight Club: Los Angeles will ship for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on Sept. 9 in North America and Sept. 12 in Europe.
Midnight Club: Los Angeles takes a page from previous MC games, as well as the more-recent Burnout Paradise from EA, by letting players drive through an open game world. Whether driving by the beach or beating the competition by cutting through a parking garage at 200 mph, Midnight Club: Los Angeles will provide a seamless environment with no load times and no official tracks.
In a mostly faithful re-creation of Los Angeles, the game allows players to race who they want, when they want and where they want in fully customizable cars. The customization extends to performance as well as appearance, with players able to personalize their licensed imports, tuners, classic muscle cars and motorcycles both inside and out. Among the upgrades are licensed rims, spoilers, interior gauges and tires.
A PSP (PlayStation Portable) version of the game, called Midnight Club: LA Remix, is also scheduled for release on September 9.
