Mortal Kombat X Release Date, Get Goro with Pre-Order

September 5, 2014 by Sara Leave a Comment

Older gamers like us fondly recall the secret to unlocking blood in the SNES version of Mortal Kombat. We’ve come a long way since then, though the Mortal Kombat X release date still elicits memories of fatalities, babalities and friendlies.

Warner Bros. Interactive announced today that the Mortal Kombat X release date is April 14, 2015. It will ship that day for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

While the release date news is all well and good, what’s bound to get franchise fans more excited is that legendary Mortal Kombat character Goro — the four-armed Shokan warrior — will be a playable character for all people who pre-order Mortal Kombat X.

As a next-gen Mortal Kombat game, Mortal Kombat X has gone a bit “next gen” in its gameplay aspects. The biggest change for Motal Kombat X is the creation of a persistent online tournament in which every fight matters in a global battle for supremacy.

Clearly my fingers won’t be fast enough to get past the first round.

In another first for the series, Mortal Kombat X gives players the ability to choose from multiple variations of each character impacting both strategy and fighting style.

The game will have players step into an original story showcasing some of the game’s most prolific characters, including Scorpion and Sub-Zero for everyone, and Goro for those who pre-order it. So far on Amazon pre-orders only appear to be live for PS4, though that’s bound to change soon.

The game will also introduce new Kombatants that represent the forces of good and evil and tie the tale together.

Warner Bros. hasn’t announced many additional playable characters, though having Goro playable alongside Sub-Zero and Scorpion is a great start. With any luck we’ll be able to bicycle kick as Liu Kang too. So far the Mortal Kombat X characters WBIE has unveiled are Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Cassie Cage, D’Vorah, Kotal Kahn and Ferra & Torr.

In case you haven’t yet seen it, here’s the Mortal Kombat X trailer. It shows a nice bit of action with Scorpion and Sub-Zero, but nobody else. Our money’s on the next trailer including Goro.
