Fans of 2K Sports’ NBA 2K series will be doing a “happy” dance with this news: the NBA 2K15 soundtrack is being curated by Pharrell Williams. If you don’t know the name, Pharrell Williams is the Grammy-winning artist who recorded “Happy.”
To be fair, not everyone’s a fan of the song, but the artist isn’t a one-trick pony. He’s also been tasked with a tall order for the NBA 2K15 soundtrack. 2K Sports has publicly promised the game will have “the most extensive and musically diverse soundtrack in NBA 2K history.”
Williams is no stranger to mixing and curating songs. His work includes producing tracks for some of the biggest albums of the decade, such as Kendrick Lamar’s “Good Kid, M.A.A.D City” and Frank Ocean’s “Channel Orange,” as well as his own hit single “Happy,” “Blurred Lines” with Robin Thicke and “Get Lucky” with Daft Punk.
Commenting on the NBA 2K15 soundtrack, Williams said he “tried to curate songs that were diverse but yet still proved to be motivational to gamers. It was important to me that the music complemented the on-court action of NBA basketball in NBA 2K15. I hope everyone enjoys it.”
A full list of the NBA 2K15 soundtrack songs will be released later this summer.
The NBA 2K15 release date is Oct. 7 for PS4, PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners in North America. Console gamers in other regions will have to wait until Oct. 10.
