Need for Speed Rivals Gameplay Video: Progression and Pursuit Tech

October 7, 2013 by Sara Leave a Comment

I’ve been a huge fan of the Need for Speed series for years now, and Need for Speed Rivals looks to put the series on steroids. For 15 minutes of behind-closed-doors time at E3, I got to play the Cops vs. Racers mode on the PS4. It left me with many thoughts, but one word kept coming to mind: stunning. EA has released a new Need for Speed Rivals gameplay video, which we wanted to share below.

This new Need for Speed Rivals gameplay video focuses on the game’progression and pursuit technology. In Need for Speed Rivals, you can take on unique careers as both a Cop and Racer where your story, gameplay, cars, and tech differ for each side of the law. As a mysterious Racer named Zephyr, draw the attention of the masses in Redview County.

In this trailer, you’ll get a look at some of the adrenaline-filled moments that you’ll see on your Speedlist as a Racer, or the enforcement objectives you’ll be given in your Assignments as a Cop. Progress through your career, get access to faster, better cars and purchase more advanced tech to take out your ultimate rivals.

In our E3 hands-on demo, we were able to choose to be either a Cop or a Racer. We raced through the game’s AllDrive mode, which will probably provide the meat of the final retail game. In AllDrive, players enter and exit their friends’ races on the fly, creating one massive world where races and chases collide. Online and offline modes are essentially one and the same, which in and of itself isn’t new, but its seamlessness is really executed well.

We enjoyed Need for Speed Rivals so much at E3 that we awarded it our Best Racing Game award coming out of the show. We had nothing but praise for the game at that point, calling it “arcade racing at its finest.”

We haven’t had the chance to get our hands on the game since that time, so we’re obviously eager to see how its final form turns out. Judging from this new Need for Speed Rivals gameplay video, it seems to be going into the home stretch in fantastic shape.
