Just in time for weekend play, the October 2014 PlayStation Plus free games are now available for download by PS Plus subscribers. This month PlayStation 4 owners get a bonus third free game. But unlike the other two PlayStation Plus free games, it hasn’t yet gone live.
On October 7, Sony was supposed to launch three October 2014 PlayStation Plus free games for PS4 owners. Normally there are only two. Sony’s best laid plans went awry, however, as the DriveClub PlayStation Plus Edition has been delayed while the developers work through some server issues.
As of this article’s publication, Sony has not yet announced when the DriveClub PlayStation Plus Edition will go live. The DriveClub PlayStation Plus Edition includes 11 tracks, 10 cars and all the modes from the normal retail version of the game.
That for-purchase retail version is available now in the PSN Store, but it’s suffering from the same online issues as the PS Plus edition and thus isn’t the best game to grab at the moment.
Fortunately, the remaining October 2014 PlayStation Plus free games are alive and kicking. On the PS4, PlayStation Plus members have two games ready for download, Dust: An Elysian Tail and Spelunky. Both games became available for free to PS Plus members at their launch, while non-members have to pay.
Dust: An Elysian Tail is a fantastical action game that looks a lot like the Sly Cooper games. Spelunky is quite different, with more of a focus on platformer gameplay but with randomized levels. At some point the October 2014 PlayStation Plus free games list for PS4 will be rounded out by DriveClub PlayStation Plus Edition. Sony just hasn’t yet announced when that will happen.
PlayStation 3 owners get a nice duo of free games this month, Batman: Arkham Asylum and Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara. Batman: Arkham Asylum is an incredible game and certainly thematic with this being October, the month of witches and bats.
Owners of a PS Vita handheld aren’t left in the dark, of course. PS Vita owners get two free games as well, the arcade-inspired game Pix the Cat and the role-playing game Rainbow Moon. Spelunky and Pix the Cat are both cross-buy titles with PS4. Rainbow Moon is a cross-buy title with PS3.
